‘Hell and Back’ is the superb latest release from Texas Singer/Songwriter Todd Barrow. This catchy and infectious song is classic country in genre and thoroughly addictive in nature.
The main stars of the piece are Barrow’s guitar playing and voice. His voice emotes emotion throughout. He has rich and warm tones which entices the listener and keeps them captivated from the beginning to the end of the song. The drums are driving, bass melodic and the harmonies on the catchy chorus are truly beautiful.
‘Hell and Back’ is a brilliant composition and arrangement. During each of the 3 verses, different instrumentation underpins the vocals. In the first verse, we hear a guitar, second verse a violin and in the third verse, we hear a piano. Each of the underpinning instrumentation has its very own separate melody which dances around the vocal, always complimenting and never intruding upon it.
Released on 5th August 2019, ‘Hell and Back’ is a song that will resonate with a lot of people. Barrow says of his writing, “I try to get to the real heart and soul of a song. To me, it’s not just words but a story, and I do my best to portray that with every line.” We feel Barrow has achieved this to perfection here. We felt his heart and soul in each lyric.
‘Hell and Back’ was written by longtime Nashville songwriter Lonnie Ratliff. Ratliff and Barrow are the perfect duo to execute ‘Hell and Back’s full potential. It is a perfect single length at 2 minutes and 58 seconds. We can not wait to check out Barrow’s extensive back catalogue and after hearing ‘Hell and Back’, we sure you will too!
