MYXA – ‘Carrion’

‘Carrion’ is the latest release by the superb Seattle trip-hop duo MYXA. It is electronic-pop at its finest and a must-hear release this summer 2020.

A deep synth opens the track and it feels like the heartbeat of the song. The drums drop, and the single is in full flow. Stunning vocals enter and masterfully guide the song along.

We adore the keys which add extra texture to the piece. The swirling synths are mesmerising and add layers of colour to the song too. We love the chorus, which is compelling and thoroughly addictive. It is a deeply immersive and relatable single, and this is a big part of MYXA’s charm.

Comprised of band members, Irene Fan and Gyancarlo Garcia, MYXA is a band who are destined for big things. Fan provides the hauntingly beautiful vocals and is also a multi-instrumentalist. Garcia is a superb multi-instrumentalist too. They are clearly excellent musicians in their own right. However, when they come together, magic happens.

Ian S. Thomas

The duo says about the release, “(The) album as recorded in Seattle, with Zachary Trujillo (Elon Dust), and Gabe Lehner (9 Theory) involved in the production. We wrote the lyrics of our debut album in collaboration with published South African Author Ian S. Thomas.” They continue, “‘Carrion’ is about how to live with oneself after a devastating breakup.”

MYXA cite their influences as artists such as Portishead, Sneaker Pimps, and DJ Shadow. We can hear these artists coming through on ‘Carrion’ but make no mistake; MYXA is making music all of their own. In addition, we have added ‘Carrion’ to our Spotify playlist, listen here

So make sure you add ‘Carrion’ to your weekday playlist. It is taken from the excellent EP ‘Mosca’. MYXA are a band who are on the up, and we very much look forward to hearing what will come next!
