Lovely Assistant – ‘Some Press-ups For Juliet’
Lovely Assistant is a band hailing from Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Their latest single ‘Some Press-ups For Juliet’ is an indie-folk release that will have you reaching for the repeat button.
Warming and enticing vocals open the release. Accompanied by stripped back instrumentation, the single is instantly charming and enticing. The full band pulls in and out and creates texture within the piece.
We love the nature of the single. The lyrics are relatable and connect with the audience. The backing vocals create extra colour in the piece, and the chordal progressions are simply gorgeous.
Lovely Assistant is comprised of band members Kieran Rafferty – Bass, Vocals, Piano, Keys, Guitar, David Turnbull – Guitar, Bass and Vocals, Annie Griffiths – Vocals and Keys, and Matt Hardy – Drums and Percussion. Together they are a driving and enigmatic band with a bright future.
The band cite their influences as artists such as Elvis Costello, Arthur Russell, fifties Torch songs, JJ Cale, Prefab Sprout, Pulp, Bonnie Prince Billy, and Angel Olsen. We can hear these muses coming through on ‘Some Press-ups For Juliet’, but Lovely Assistant is making music with their own unique style and character.
‘Some Press-ups For Juliet’ was produced and mixed by Will Thorneycroft. Together the team have done an excellent job in creating a piece of art that will stand the test of time. The band say, “This is our first series of releases. Treetrunk Records has also released records from Fax Machine and The Dawdler on 12″.”
So make sure you add ‘Some Press-ups For Juliet’ to your weekday playlist. We really like Lovely Assistant’s formidable style, and we look forward to hearing what they will do in the future. ‘Some Press-ups For Juliet’ is available from the link below.
