*Read Disclosure Here

We caught up with London-based musician Longsman following the release of his excellent latest single, ‘By Your Side’. Read the full interview now!

What is your earliest music memory?

My earliest music memory is probably badly learning recorder in infants school. I always enjoyed listening to other pupils that could play (just not myself).

Who or what first got you into music?

I got into music as a result of my parents always playing music loudly early in the morning right through to late at night. At school, I was always interested in music lessons and went from there to start writing my own songs and teaching myself how to play instruments.

Who influenced your latest release?

My latest song is influenced by the difficult few years it has been for my partner and me. It is basically a message to that person saying I will always be by their side no matter what happens. Musically I would say it sounds a bit like the Red Hot Chili Peppers mixed with The Clash.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

In a dream world, I would most like to collaborate with Jack White.

What’s your dream venue to play?

My dream venue would be the Pyramid Stage, Glastonbury. Always good to dream!

Other than music, what are you passionate about?

Besides music, I am passionate about food and football. Put me in a pub with good grub and sky sports, and I am happy.

What changes would you like to see in the music business?

It would be great to see more support for unsigned artists to help break through and build an audience. Whilst it is one of the best times to gain exposure, it is one of the hardest times to cut through and make a living from music.

How do you feel about how the internet plays a role in the music business today?

The internet provides a great platform for musicians to build an audience and get their music out there barrier free. However, it is easy to get lost in the noise. I think a lot of unsigned artists could do with advice on how to best use the internet to promote their music and build a following.

The #1 Writing Tool

If you could choose one thing for fans to take away from your music, what would it be?

If there is one thing I hope my people take away from my music, it is a connected emotion and empathy. I write about personal experiences, but I know that I am not alone in the feelings I write about. It helps me to write about life’s experiences, so I hope it helps people to listen to them and relate.

What is your favourite song to play live?

Difficult to chose a favourite song live with the current situation but since live rehearsals Missing You is still my favourite to play live.

Have you started working on your next release?

I have already started writing new songs for an album which I plan to release before the end of this year. My songwriting is constantly improving, so I am excited to see where it takes me.
