Quarter Water – ‘What’s The Word’
Brooklyn-based band Quarter Water have released their superb single ‘What’s The Word’, in December 2020. It is a brilliant pop-jazz release which sets Quarter Water apart from the crowd!
A staccato opening greets the listener, and the sonic spectrum is filled with texture from the get-go. As the beat drops, the single is in full flow. We adore the rap; it is skilfully executed and instantly demands the listener’s attention.
The tempo of the vocal slows and the intoxicating nature of ‘What’s The Word’ engulfs the listener. We adore the backing instrumentation, which is layered and well balanced. Everything has its own space in the mix and shines brightly.
The chorus is catchy and stays with the listener long after the music has ended. Also, there is a gorgeous saxophone which underpins the vocals, creating beautiful harmonies.
Quarter Water says about the release, “‘What’s the Word’, a juxtaposition of rugged finesse comes through when speed and technique embody the culmination of a cherished moment. Sit back, relax, and expand your mind.”
The band are fronted by rapper GooGie and feature Leland Baker on saxophone, Bennett Eifeman on drums, Kaley Puckett on keyboard and Gabe Leader-Rose on bass. They are a talented group of musicians who are onto a winner with this latest release.
This excellent single has been mixed and mastered by dane.zone of Sonnymoon and together the team have created a piece of art that will stand the test of time.
‘What’s The Word’ is taken from the EP, ‘More Flavors’ which is due for release on 18th December 2020. After hearing this superb single, we can not wait to check out the full EP. We are sure that 2021 is going to be a big year for this enigmatic group.
