Honeypot – ‘Fake News’
Charleston-based band Honeypot. released the brilliant single ‘Fake News’, in January 2020. It is a release that needs to be heard.
Attention-grabbing vocals open the song before the upbeat nature of the single kick in. The melody is catchy and stays with the listener long after the music has ended. Lyrically ‘Fake News’ is a social commentary on Trump’s reign and cements moments in time.
The backing instrumentation is layered and pulls in and out, creating texture and harmony within the piece. Also, the main hook turns into an earworm that is memorable and driving.
The band says about the release, “‘Fake News’ is an indie rock song denouncing the hypocrisy of Trump’s attacks against journalism. Now that the presidential reign is ending, it seems the perfect send-off.”
Honeypot comprises of band members Frank Hartman (guitar, drums, vocals) and Chris Chamberlain (bass, backing, production). Together the duo are making exciting and innovative music that needs to be heard. They are using their platform to raise awareness, and we salute them.
The duo cites their influences as coming from prog-rock bands such as Rush, Alice in Chains, Tool, and Guns n Roses. We can hear these influences coming through on ‘Fake News’, but make no mistake, Honeypot is a band making music all of their own.
We are so excited to have discovered Honeypot and look forward to hearing more from them this year. They can connect with their audiences through social commentary, and their style is intelligently arranged and composed. Their tongue in cheek delivery is infectious, and it is what sets them apart from the crowd. We believe the 2020s are going to be a big decade for the band.
