Daniel Blake – ‘Jakarta’
Los Angeles-based artist Daniel Blake has released the stunning EP ‘Jakarta’ in April 2021. It is a folk-pop release with a big heart.
‘Heartbreaker’ opens this brilliant EP. It is addictive and driving from the get-go. The guitar and kick drum feel like the song’s heartbeat, and they lay the solid foundation for emotional vocals to shine.
The title track ‘Jakarta’ is a compelling song from the first bar. It features double-tracked vocals, which inject their unique texture into the piece. As the drums drop, the song is in full flow with gorgeous beats and memorable melodies.
Blake says about the title song, “‘Jakarta’ is the title track of this EP and sets the tone for the remaining tracks. Named after the fastest sinking city in the world, Jakarta is about accepting the fate of a sinking relationship.”
‘Freeway’ is another stand out song. It closes the release and will have the listener reaching for the repeat button. Daniel Blake is a classic troubadour in the making. ‘Jakarta’ firmly sets him as an artist to watch in the 2020s.

‘Jakarta’ has been superbly recorded at Death Star Studios in Korea Town, LA. It has been superbly produced by Bill Lefler, mixed by Tim Abraham and mastered by Hans Dekline. Together, the team has done a superb job in creating a piece of art that will stand the test of time and firmly puts Daniel Blake as an artist with a significant career ahead of him.
