We caught up with London based artist FLORALYN following the release of her electronic-pop ‘Enough Of You’. This is an artist who is going places!

Tell us about yourself?

I’m Floralyn, and I love sushi! Kidding, but not kidding. Thanks for the invite 🙂

What is your songwriting process?

Always different. I tend to write from personal experiences. I feel this way the music is a lot more authentic, and people relate with it. However, I do sometimes write from a place of acting – I put myself into someone else’s shoes, and I experience what they might feel like. It is a very fun process!

Tell us about your latest release?

My latest song ‘Enough of You’ is like a pretty diamond, which I’d wear on my ears all day long, I love this song! The song is about enjoyment and surrendering to pleasure. We had so much fun producing it last summer, and I’m glad it’s finally out. The audience is loving it too. I am planning on making a music video for it further down the line.

What message do you think your music conveys to your fans?

To be free, forget anxieties and to never stop dreaming. Also, I am a big supporter of female empowerment. I’ve worked very hard, and I am very passionate about what I do so I really hope others can see this and feel inspired to do what they love most.

Who are your musical influences?

Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Lana Del Rey, Bonobo, Sevdaliza etc. I like all kinds of music. When I was a little girl, I loved Celine Dion. I wanted to become like her one day! Now I hope to release some great belters further down the line.

Who are your non-musical influences?

So many… I recently watched Coco Channel, and it made me feel very inspired. I relate to her story and persona in so many ways. She is a very strong female figure, a great example of her love and passion for what she did. More films – I like all films by Darren Arronovsky, they always put me in very deep thoughts. Also, I love vintage style, art, dancing and 80s fashion. Art was my first love before music.

What’s the best gig that you have ever played?

All of them are quite amazing, to be honest, and very unique in their own ways. Once I played on a high stage, late in the evening on a very big square. Suddenly as I was singing, fireworks started brightening up the sky, and everybody was mesmerized. I still sometimes meet people who were at the who and remember this moment so well.

What is your funniest gig moment?

When a little kid once climbed the stage and started dancing next to me. The parents freaked out. I gave them a sign that it’s okay. The little kid seemed very happy. It was so cute!

What do you think are the biggest obstacles for bands/artists today?
There are so many things out there that it becomes hard sometimes for artists to understand what’s good and whatnot. You need to stay focused and do your research!

What advice would you give to other bands/artists starting out?

To get a lawyer! Once I heard Taylor Swift say this on the video of Vogue. I thought she was joking. Now I know she was serious!

What are your hopes for the next two years?

I want to go on a support tour of a bigger artist that I like and admire and release my very first full-length album. I am very excited for what’s coming!
