We were lucky enough to catch up with Shobsy following the excellent release, ‘Champagne‘. Read the full interview below!

Hi Shobsy, tell us about yourself.

I am a new artist from Dublin, Ireland. Interested in big melodies and colourful live performances. Very much looking forward to getting more acquainted with the UK live scene.

What is your songwriting process?

Recently, I’ve been enjoying searching for song titles that excite me and pursuing the sound that title makes me feel.

Tell us about your superb dream-pop release, ‘Champagne’.

‘Champagne’ is a song born from the process I described above. I thought of the song title and was like…’I’ve got to write a song about Champagne! And so I tried to capture the late-night glamour but also the potential darkness of late-night partying.

Can you tell us more about the recording process?

I recorded the song with my creative collaborator Adam O’Regan, an amazing all-around artist and guitarist of the acclaimed Irish band Soda Blonde. He also shot the video!

You are from Dublin but recently performed at Musexpo in Burbank and made a special appearance at the International Music Industry Person of the Year awards; how did that performance feel?

I was extremely nervous! But I was delighted to come out of the show with a publishing deal! I will return to Musexpo again this March in pursuit of an accompanying record deal.

Your music has been described as ‘Powerhouse vocals that rival the enchanting beauty of Freddie Mercury & George Michael’ – how does it feel to be compared to such iconic artists?

It means everything to me. Those artists gave me life and purpose. So when people say I remind them of their energy, it’s an ultimate compliment!

What message do you think your music conveys to your fans?

Essentially, I hope that the energy of my project fills fans with a sense of wonder about the world. A sense that anything is possible, that life is absolutely worth living. And that true passion always rises to the top.

What scares you most when releasing music?

That it won’t reach as many people as it deserves! There’s a lot of noise out there!

What do you think are the biggest obstacles for bands/artists today?

Navigating social media and streaming.

What advice would you give to other bands/artists starting out?

Check-in on yourself to ensure that you truly have the passion for undertaking the lifestyle. And when you are sure, check again. It’s a big life choice.
