Jay Stott – ‘Wreckage of Now’

Pennsylvania-born artist Jay Stott has released his second solo album, ‘Wreckage of Now’. It is an Americana release that will have you reaching for the repeat button.

We adore the title track, ‘Wreckage of Now’. It opens the release with an infectious groove which entices the listener. ‘All Night Long’ follows, and the upbeat, engaging nature takes over. The layered instrumentation offers texture to the piece, and we adore the organ in particular.

Stott is a storyteller with a poets heart. ‘Grain Belt Sign’ has a laid back nature and the lyrics shine brightly. Finally, ‘Dying in Droves’ closes the release and leaves the listener wanting more!

During ‘Wreckage of Now’, Stott tells stories which are rooted in the first-hand experience. Stott says, “I had a very misspent youth, and got sober when I was pretty young,” he explains. “So, on the one hand, I’m grateful for recovery, but on the other hand, I’m like, boy — that whole chunk of my life back then sure gave me a bucket full of stuff to write about!”

Stott Continues, “My first record, ‘Dirt & Heartache’, from the title on down, it was just so serious, and that’s just part of who I am, because as a music fan, I happen to like really sad, depressing songs. The more downbeat, the better. But for this one, I made a conscious effort to try to slip in a few more songs that were just for fun, just like when I play live. Because when people go out on a Friday or Saturday night to listen to music, a lot of times they just really want to have a good time.”

Now based in Colorado, Jay Stott is an artist who needs to be heard. We thoroughly enjoyed ‘Wreckage of Now’ and look forward to hearing what this classic troubadour will do next.
