Koalra – ‘Tell Me I’m Not’
Hailing from Chicago, Koalra has released their addictive dream-pop anthem ‘Tell Me I’m Not’, in August 2020.
Dreamy guitars open the release and they are set to a backdrop of a driving rhythm section. The soothing vocals enter, and the audience is fully captivated. As the track progresses, we adore the gorgeous vocals which are juxtaposed to the energy fuelled guitars. This creates wonderful texture within the song and adds further layers of interest and intrigue.
The chorus is memorable, and we enjoyed it returning each time. There is also an atmospheric video which accompanies the release. It is the perfect accompaniment to the addictive single, and we are certain Koalra are a band on the way up.
Koalra cites their influences as coming from bands such as Boyracer, The Thermals, The Cure, Dinosaur Jr., No Age and Wavves. We can certainly hear these coming through in the music but make no mistake, Koalra is innovating the genre and making music all of their own.
Previously, the band released their self titled album in 2019. Subsequently, in early 2020, the band released the EP ‘Surprise Lights’ which has been followed by singles from their upcoming release ‘The Wakes’. ‘Tell Me I’m Not’ is taken from the as of yet unreleased album and we can not wait for that to drop!
Impressively, the bands last single ‘Dear Daylight’, landed on more than 300 Spotify playlists. This is a testament to the quality songwriting and musicianship that Koalra possesses.
Starting life from rising out of the garage music scene in Chicago, Koalra is a prolific and impactful band who are working hard and making waves. They are certainly a band to watch, and we look forward to hearing what will come next.
