We caught up with musician Suchy following the release of the excellent single ‘Laylow’. Enjoy the full interview below!

What is your earliest music memory?

I remember my Mum used to sing while cleaning and I loved watching her. I was writing songs from around the age of 6 on my Sisters keyboard – a little Casio number!

Who or what got you into music?

My Sister gave me a cassette which had loads of 60s music on it, and the harmonies used to put me into my own little world. I remember having it constantly glued to my ears!

Who influenced your latest release?

The path I was on at the time showed me a toxic relationship from an outsiders perspective which was the influence behind the lyrics. Musically, I had spent time living in Spain and was really into the sound of Spanish and South American music, then merging it with my roots from the Bristol vibes.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

It all depends on what mood I’m in! Production-wise I’d absolutely love to work with Timbaland; he’s fire. I’d love to perform with Slow Thai, I like his energy and realness, and I’m really vibing Octavian at the moment.

What’s your dream venue to play?

Main Stage Glastonbury, the Pyramid stage! At 8.30 pm just while the sun is going down.

Other than music, what are you passionate about?

Muay Thai fighting, because of the discipline and the growth. I love travelling because I enjoy the freedom and unexpected paths ahead. I’m a massive fan of experiencing new cultures.

What changes would you like to see in the music business?

I would like to see art as art – artists being able to give their full art to us without being moulded and overproduced.

How do you feel about how the internet plays a role in the music business today?

I think it’s amazing! It’s another world, another platform. Big ups to the internet! We all used to depend on record companies for our music to expose, and now we don’t. If you’re on your game with the distribution of your music you can generate the buzz.

If you could choose one thing for fans to take away from your music, what would it be?

Good vibes, good energy and strength! I write a lot about my life experiences and different pockets that I hope other people can connect with.

What is your favourite song to play live?

‘Addicted’ because of the energy I get back from the crowd – it goes off! And I also enjoy one of my next releases, ‘Darkside’ – it’s a cheeky little number.

Have you started working on your next release?

Yes! Been in the studio cooking for a while. My next release will be coming out in November, and I’m hyped for you to hear it.
