Read our interview with THE RHYTHM BULLIES following the release of the brilliant single ‘Dysnomia’.
How did you first get into music?
I took an interest in my dad’s drum kit I think after discovering punk and ska, so he started teaching me to play.
Who influenced your latest release ‘Dysnomia’?
I didn’t have anyone in mind when I wrote it, but I do think the guitar solo was inspired by ‘Needle In The Camel’s Eye’ by Brian Eno.
‘Dysnomia’ is Post Punk Goth in nature, what draws you to the genre?
I think it allows people to explore new musical and lyrical ideas while staying in a popular music context.
You have a podcast ‘Sebastian’s Finest Hour’, tell us more about it?
I started Sebastian’s Finest Hour because I always wanted to be a DJ and an interviewer. And with current topics of conversation being so homogenous I want to talk about the more obscure and also the transcendent and Beautiful.
What motivates you to make music?
I just don’t know how to do anything else. Music is what I do instinctively.

Jonathan Richman!
Pre-covid, what was the music scene like in Nashville?
Flourishing but only a couple of weeks before shutdown we suffered the loss of the Basement Eas to a tornado.
What’s your favourite venue to play?
I played the Venetian Las Vegas once, and that’s hard to beat.
What are your other passions aside from music?
I like to read. Eugene Vodolazkin is my new favourite author. John Fante is tied with him. I am also the Tennessee ambassador for NF2 Bio Solutions who fund gene therapy research to treat NF2, which is what I have. It’s a genetic disorder that causes tumours to grow in the central nervous system.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Higher royalty rates.
What new music are you listening to at the moment?
I dig the Weird Sisters. They’re another Nashville band. Also, I really like Squid.
