Ruto – ‘Pan Dulce’

Los Angeles-based artist Ruto has released the superb album ‘Pan Dulce’ in May 2022. It is a dream-pop release that will have you reaching for the repeat button!

‘No Repeats’ opens the release to an addictive groove and gorgeous chordal progressions. We adore the warm and inviting nature of the track, which sets the scene beautifully as to what is to come. 

‘Shallow Thought’ is a standout song that evolves before the listener. The lyrics are compelling, and they reach out and touch the audience. In addition, ‘Every Step’ features layered and complex instrumentation that fills the sonic spectrum with vivid colour.

‘Mondos Entre Mundos’ is an atmospheric song with wonderful melodies that stay with the listener long after the music has ended. Finally, ‘Commentario’ closes the release and leaves the audience wanting more.

Ruto says about the inspiration behind ‘Pan Dulce’, “What really inspired this was being locked in my room having to critically look at myself and the music I was composing. Along with some personal events, the themes and style of the music I’m producing comes from a very introverted view of myself.” He continues, “An imploded thought process where I took my mind to other realities of how my life could have turned out.”

Ruto produced this brilliant album himself and worked with his long time producer and friend Randy Mendoza who mastered the album. Together the duo have created a piece of art that will stand the test of time. 

Influences

Ruto cites his influences as coming from South Central LA, hip-hop, punk, and cumbias. We can hear these muses coming through on ‘Pan Dulce’, but make no mistake, Ruto is making must-hear music all of his own.
