S J Denney – ‘And Then You Wonder…’

Released officially today, 25th February 2022, ‘And Then You Wonder…’ is the excellent latest single from Benfleet-based artist, S J Denney. It is an indie-pop release with a lot of heart.

S J Denney’s charming and character-filled vocals open the release, instantly demanding the audience’s attention. A gorgeous string arrangement underpins his vocals, adding a rich texture to the piece.

As the single progresses, the strings and vocals dance around each other, complimenting beautifully. Denney has intelligently composed and arranged ‘And Then You Wonder…’ and he has created beautiful harmonies and colour within the piece.

‘And Then You Wonder…’ is a song that keeps the listener on their toes. You are unsure which direction Denney will take you, but you feel safe in his vocal performance.

S J Denney says about the release, “This song was inspired by the tough Covid restrictions many of us have been facing and looks at how lucky we were before all this happened.”

He continues, “In the song, the characters dream of a return of the freedoms they once had. Musically, the song was influenced by ‘Eleanor Rigby’ by The Beatles.”

Influences

Denney cites his influences as coming from artists such as The Beatles’ ‘White Album’ and Neil Young’s ‘Harvest’. We can hear these muses coming through on ‘And Then You Wonder…’ but make no mistake, Denney is making music all of his own!

In addition, Denney has teamed up with Mat Leppanen at The Animal Farm to mix the release, and Nigel Palmer has superbly mastered it at Lowland Masters. Together, the team has crafted a single that will stand the test of time.
