Terry Blade – ‘Black Hurts’

Chicago-based artist Terry Blade has released the stunning single ‘Black Hurts’, on 30th October 2020. It is an R’n’B released with a lot of soul.

A gorgeous electric guitar opens the single. It is filled with heart and soul. As the full band drops, Terry Blade’s gorgeous vocals breakthrough. The layered vocals add extra texture to the piece, and a perfect harmony is achieved.

Lyrically, ‘Black Hurts’ is hard-hitting and instantly touches the listener. Blade sings eloquently about racial injustice, and it is profoundly affecting. We have added ‘Black Hurts’ to our FV Music Blog Playlist. Check it out here.

Terry Blade says about the release, “‘Black Hurts’ is a soulful song about the burdens that come with being black in the U.S. (police brutality, racial prejudice, discrimination, etc).” He continues, “As a black and openly gay singer-songwriter, I bring a rare/unique perspective and sound to the musical landscape – one that expresses raw emotional truths that resonate with listeners.”

Influences

Blade cites his influences as coming from artists such as Meshell Ndegeocello, Tracy Chapman, Amos Lee, Solange and Angie Stone. We can hear these phenomenal artists coming through on ‘Black Hurts’ but make no mistake; Terry Blade is making music all of his own.

One thing is for sure; Terry Blade is a formidable artist. He is making innovative music that does not shy away from the tough topics. He is shining a light on injustices, and this is a big part of his charm.

We are big fans of Terry Blade and are so excited to have discovered ‘Black Hurts’. He is an artist who is just getting started, and we very much look forward to hearing what he will do next.
