Heavyman – ‘Pigs’

One of our favourite artists is back! Heavyman has released their excellent latest single ‘Pigs’ today, 15th August 2020.

Distorted guitars open the release and the enticing groove is captivating from the get-go. The bass and drums create a solid foundation for the rest of the instrumentation to spring from. We love the vocals which have a rich tone and guide the single along effortlessly.

The guitars play memorable riffs which reappear throughout the release like an old friend returning. We adore how the riffs and vocal melody play off against one another. The trade-off is filled with character and charm, and a perfect balance is achieved.

“‘Pigs’ was written in 2014 when Russia invaded Crimea… I was reading Animal Farm at the time,” says frontman Charlie Yang, “I wanted to explore this almost careless sense of loyalty to whomever may be calling the shots… to write a song as a conversation between those who follow and those who lead.”

ACLU

To celebrate the release, Heavyman is also donating to ACLU on the centennial anniversary of their ongoing fight against human rights violations. Not just great musicians, but nice guys too. In addition, ‘Pigs’ was premiered on Kerrang! Radio’s ‘Fresh Blood in August 2020.

‘Pigs’ is the second single for the band to release after their debut single ‘Baby Jean’ put Heavyman firmly on the map. We were lucky enough to catch up with the band for an interview back in May, check it out here.

We thoroughly recommend adding this exciting band to your weekend playlist. They are continually evolving their sound and working on fresh and inspiring music.

We very much look forward to hearing what they will do next. Until then, check out ‘Pigs’ from the link below.
