Joya, the debut album from Josi Costi, is a record born from intimacy, trust, and a sense of place. Written entirely by Costi and produced alongside long-time collaborator Tal Janes, the album was recorded in a Richmond living room transformed into a temporary studio.

We adore Reverse Stimulation; it instantly draws the listener in with exquisite musicianship and passionate performances. The thought-provoking lyrics captivate the audience, and it is a thoroughly engaging opening.

In addition, Sleep is fuelled by magnetic performances and rich production. The gorgeous melodies are charming, and Josi Costi effortlessly takes the listener by the hand on a journey of honesty and heart.

Moreover, House is a formidable track that features enchanting performances, immersive lyrics and compelling melodies that will have you reaching for the repeat button.

Also, The Frog & Sun takes the album in a fresh direction, keeping the listener on their toes. One thing is for sure, Joya is a must-hear album that sets Josi Costi as a troubadour you need to hear this Autumn.

Team

Joined by Ben Reed on bass, Rod Oughton on percussion, and engineered by Viktor Volaric-Horvat, the sessions were raw and immediate, captured live to tape with nature and home sounds seeping into the music. The result is a warm, analogue collection that reflects friendship, exploration, and Costi’s evolving voice as a songwriter.

Time capsule

More than just a collection of songs, Joya feels like a time capsule—ten days of shared creativity distilled into sound. Every note carries the imprint of the people and the place: the creak of floorboards, birdsong drifting in from Richmond Park, and the quiet camaraderie of old friends making music together.

Brett Shaw

Mixed by Brett Shaw at 123 Studios, the album’s textures are layered with care, balancing subtle detail with emotional directness. For Costi, Joya is a first offering in a new chapter—one where vulnerability, honesty, and storytelling take centre stage. It’s the sound of an artist coming home.
