Amelouk – ‘..Like a Shroud’

Hailing from Helsinki, musician Amelouk has released the brilliant EP ‘..Like a Shroud’. It is an avant-garde release that you need to know about this Winter.

‘Ritual’ opens the release, and Amelouk’s soulful and powerful vocals ring out. Then, a dissonant piano enters, taking the listener on a brooding and intriguing ride.

We enjoyed’ Misery’, an intelligently arranged piece with hauntingly beautiful melodies. In addition, we adore the superb musicianship that shines through and demands the audience’s attention.

Moreover, ‘Beric’ is a track that is filled with character. The superb arrangement takes the listener on a journey while the stand-out melodies complement each other beautifully. Finally, ‘Night Won’t Come’ closes the release and will have you reaching for the repeat button.

Amelouk says about the release, “I decided to name the EP ‘..Like a Shroud’ after a line from ‘Hallelujah’ by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.” She continues, “That song is very dear to me, and the feeling in it perfectly mirrors some of the common themes in my music and life.”

Amelouk is a one-woman band that you need to hear. She has superbly written, composed and produced this fantastic EP and executed every element precisely. In addition, ‘..Like a Shroud’ was mastered at Virtalähde mastering by Jaakko Viitalähde. Together, the team have done an excellent job in creating a body of work that firmly puts Amelouk as an artist to watch going into 2023.
