DAMIEN – ‘Wrong Age. Wrong Race. Wrong Gender’
Hailing from Australia, musician DAMIEN has released the superb album ‘Wrong Age. Wrong Race. Wrong Gender’. It is a post-punk release that you need to hear this Summer.
‘2 Out Of 10’ opens the release to a stoic beat and fantastic vocal performances. We adore the catchy nature of the song that draws the listener in and sets the scene beautifully as to what is to come.
‘Melbourne Afternoon’ is a standout song that reaches out and touches the listener. DAMIEN’s layered enticing vocal performances are superb. In addition, we love the delicate backing instrumentation which underpins the relatable lyrics.
We adore ‘Human’; it has a staccato nature, and the superb production takes the song to the next level. Finally, ‘Dreamer’ closes the release and brings the album in a fresh direction. Will the next album carry on where this one left off? We can’t wait to find out!
DAMIEN says about the release, “The album title is a criticism of how cultures have often given preference to people based on things outside of their control, such as race, age and gender. At any given time in history, there has been a (usually self-appointed) idealized group based on race or age etc, and a despised group.”
They continue, “My hope is that others will resonate with the feelings expressed in this album and may come to appreciate and advocate for a more equal society where we can all experience acceptance, value, love and success, irrespective of the things we have no control over.”
Previously, DAMIEN released the album ‘Girl’, and after hearing ‘Wrong Age. Wrong Race. Wrong Gender’, we can not wait to check out their back catalogue. In addition, DAMIEN supports the transgender community and works to raise awareness of the issues transgender people face through his art.
We are so excited to have discovered DAMIEN. ‘Wrong Age. Wrong Race. Wrong Gender’ is a spell-binding release you need to know add to your new music playlist. We can not wait to hear what they will do next.
