Hailing from Wilkes-Barre in the United States, artist Daniel John has released his excellent latest single ‘Pixel Queens’ today (22nd May 2020).

A country vibe opens the single. It is instantly enticing and captivating. John’s warm vocals fill the sonic landscape beautifully. We adored the layered instrumentation; it is rich in colour and texture. The percussion drives the single along effortlessly. We found the main melody to be memorable, and the song’s message stays with the listener long after the music has ended. Towards the end of the single, the track changes direction, and this keeps the listener on their toes, excited in not knowing what will come next.

John says, “I wrote the song a while back while feeling disconnected from the dating scene. With the rise of social media and dating apps, it became alarmingly easy to engage with people in intimate ways. Someone I had just started talking to would perceive me to be a certain way or assume I would want something I wasn’t necessarily after. It felt right to be a part of the cultural moment, but it also felt wrong at times.” He continues, “Dating apps created a constant mind game. I’d end up oversharing details about me, or sending pictures of myself, just to have something in return. Most of the time, it went nowhere. It can be very manipulating. There’s a level of confidence to it, but there’s also a level of sadness to it. The words and pictures often become the thrill instead of the person.”

‘Pixel Queens’ follows John’s 2019 album release ‘Velvet Shedding’. John is an exciting artist who is making waves with this latest single. We very much look forward to hearing what he will do next.
