Her Skin – ‘I Started A Garden’
Hailing from Modena, musician Her Skin has released the spell-binding album ‘I Started A Garden’. It is a folk-pop release that you need to hear this Autumn.
‘Bones’ opens the release, and it instantly entices the listener in. The stunning guitar work and soulful vocal performance are sublime and hooked us from the get-go.
‘Confident’ takes the album in a fresh direction with an upbeat vibe, punchy production and memorable melodies. We love the relatable lyrics, which are juxtaposed with cheerful instrumentation.
In addition, ‘Sober’ is a standout song with intelligent chordal progressions and charismatic vocal performances. Also, ‘Changing’ has a brooding vibe and gorgeous harmonies. Finally, ‘It’s Hard to Breathe/I Started a Garden’ closes the release, and it will have you reaching for the repeat button.
Comments
Her Skin says about the release, “It took me three years to write and record these nine songs, and I am aware that I’m not the same person I was when I started working on this record, but that’s what makes it so special to me. It’s an album about the lessons I learned, the people I loved, the time it took me to heal.”
Influences
Her Skin cites her influences as coming from artists such as Sibylle Baier, Vashti Bunyan, Mac DeMarco, Beirut, Joni Mitchell, Jay Malinowski, The Kinks, the Head and the Heart. We can hear these influences coming through on ‘I Started A Garden’ but make no mistake; Her Skin is making music all of her own.
