We were lucky enough to catch up with musician Jamie Alimorad, following the stunning release, ‘Fade Into You‘. Enjoy the full interview below!
Jamie, thanks for joining us! Let’s start with your latest single, ‘Fade Into You’. Can you walk us through the inspiration behind the song?
Great to be here! “Fade Into You” came about in an atypical way for me. The lyrics were inspired by a journal post I wrote after an on-again, off-again thing I had with a girl came to an abrupt halt. The heavy realization that I gave so much of myself to this person was a tough pill to swallow, but it led to a great song!
The blend of RockRock and pop in ‘Fade Into You’ feels really fresh. What was your approach to merging these two genres?
Pop/RockRock has always been my favourite style. I love guitar-driven arrangements with a melody you can latch onto. I had strayed away from that sound for a while for a variety of reasons, but after putting some of my old songs back in the live set for the first time in years, the response from the audience made me feel now was the time to go back.
The lyrics of ‘Fade Into You’ are deeply emotive. What’s the personal story or message you’re hoping to convey with this track?
I hope that people attach their own meaning to the song. Writing it was very therapeutic and cathartic. Since I had those lyrics written way before I ever recorded it, it was interesting to feel how their meaning changed for me by the time I actually got to track. The pain had gone away, and now I looked at it more optimistically. Now, the glass was half full because I could see the lessons I learned from the experience. People teach you a lot about yourself.
How do you feel ‘Fade Into You’ represents your evolution as an artist compared to your previous work?
I feel “Fade Into You” is as much about moving forward as it is going back. Obviously, the sound is much more in line with what my early records are like, but the sound has evolved tremendously. Compared to my more recent offerings, this has much more excitement and energy.
The production on the track is quite dynamic. Can you share who was involved in bringing this song to life in the studio?
This is the first song that Jordan Sherman produced with me, and I presented him with a unique task. I originally wrote the music as an EDM track because an ex-girlfriend said I couldn’t do it. So I took the dare and had this great demo of something very Chainsmokers-like.
I brought it to Jordan, and he loved the tune. I told him I wanted to do a “remix” of the song and make it a band song. So he and I laid down the basic tracks, and we brought in Triple D (David Daniel Diaz) on drums, and suddenly we had ourselves a band track!
As a musician based in LA, how has the city’s music scene influenced your sound and creative process, particularly for this single?
LA is a melting pot of eras, genres, and styles. My influences tend to be more deeply rooted in the music I was raised on, but I’ve certainly been inspired by many of the talented artists, musicians, and songwriters in town to try different things. It’s also a blast to play with people who have completely different backgrounds because it can bring an element that you never expected.
What’s the one thing you hope listeners take away from ‘Fade Into You’ when they hear it for the first time?
I hope it makes them feel good. Whether you relate to the lyrics, the melody grabs you, the beat, the flow of the song, whatever it is, I hope it makes you want to play it again.
Rock-pop as a genre can appeal to a wide audience. Do you have any particular artists or songs in the genre that influenced your sound or style on this track?
All my early influential artists fall into that genre. The Tubes, Toto, The Beatles, Richard Marx, Bryan Adams, Rick Springfield, and so many more thrive in that genre, and they each have played a role in my songwriting and performing.
What has your fans’ response been so far? Have any particular reactions or comments stood out to you?
The response has been tremendous! My album This Is Tomorrow Calling opened up a whole new audience for me, and the radio success of songs like “Brighter Days” and “Give a Little Lovin’” exposed my pop sensibility to people, but for most of them, this more rock-oriented sound is new to them, and they love it! My DMs are flooded with messages, and it’s great to see that enthusiasm!
Looking ahead, what’s next for you in terms of music? Are there any upcoming projects or singles that we should be excited about?
Yes! There are five more singles coming this year and more next year. 2025 is part 1, and 2026 is part 2 of an album project. You can look at it as two EPs or one album when all is said and done, but they’ll be coming to you song by song. I’m really excited for you to hear what we’ve been cooking up! It’s some of my best work!
