Liverpool alt-rock outfit RISE return with “Lost For Words” — a soaring, synth-driven anthem that transforms heartbreak into strength. Known for their signature blend of guitars, driving drums, and emotive vocals, the band capture that post-breakup moment of shock and channel it into resilience and groove.

Recorded at Whitewood Studios with co-producer Rob Whiteley, “Lost For Words” is both introspective and uplifting — proof that pain can spark power. We caught up with RISE to talk about evolving their sound, balancing emotion with precision, and finding light even when life hits hard.

“Lost For Words” captures that moment of shock in a breakup — what inspired you to flip that heartbreak into something empowering instead of despairing?

It’s all about trying to stay positive, even in a negative situation… You have to look for the positive things in life (well, I believe you have to).

The track has that unmistakable “RISE” sound — synths, guitars, and driving drums. How did you refine that signature style over time, and how do you keep it evolving?

It’s all about balance and letting each part of the band shine through…we really try to ensure there isn’t one dominant instrument, it’s about working on “band” sound.

The emotional delivery in stayMellow’s vocals really stands out. What was the atmosphere like in the studio while recording those takes?

He is normally a very chilled guy… so, we did have to get him worked up for this one and get him angry lol. This is a great point to notice; it worked out well, we thought.

Brian’s guitar solos in the bridge and outro are highlights — did those come together spontaneously in the studio, or were they carefully planned beforehand?

Brian really works on his sound and his ideas. The main solo in the bridge he had planned in detail for the studio, but the end solo came from jamming in the studio, and we really like what he did and kept it.

Alex’s drumming gives the track real forward momentum. How do you approach balancing groove, precision, and emotion in your rhythm section?

Alex is a drummer with a great groove. We change timings and the feel of our songs quite a bit. He is left very much to his own way of working on the feel for each song.

You recorded at Whitewood Studios in Liverpool — what drew you to that space, and how did co-producing with Rob Whiteley shape the final sound?

Our singer, stayMellow, worked with Rob on one of his tracks called Eye Contact (check it out; great track), and we really like what Rob was doing. I’ve worked with Rob for two years now, and we know how to get the best out of each other. We approach production in very different ways, but we are both into detail; it does seem to work.

There’s a clear message of resilience in Lost For Words. Is that theme something listeners can expect to hear more of in your upcoming material?

Yes, we have taken some knocks and losses along the way, but picking yourself up and moving forward is a key way we approach life and music.

Each of you brings a distinct musical background to RISE — how do you manage creative differences when shaping a song like this?

I tend to start the ideas, then send them to the guys to kick them about. We then jam the parts and change things around as a band. It’s important to us to ensure balance and let ideas fly.

The track feels built for both headphones and live stages. How do you translate that big studio energy into your live performances?

That is extremely difficult; ours is a “big” sound. We do use some sequencer triggers to thicken up the live performance, and we do allow guest musicians to join us across different tracks.

For listeners discovering you through Lost For Words, what do you hope they take away from this track and from RISE’s overall sound?

Positive energy and a smile! You should be able to remember certain parts long after the track has finished.
