Jake Bracey & The Mountain Laurels – ‘Grand Avenue Hymns’
‘Grand Avenue Hymns’ is the excellent latest album from Philadelphia-based band Jake Bracey & The Mountain Laurels. It is an Americana album with a whole lot of heart!
‘Synapse’ opens the release. It is a raw and honest song that wonderfully sets the scene for what is to come. Bracey’s vocals ring out and demand the listener’s attention.
‘Drag’ is a standout song. There is a vulnerability in the lyrics, from the double-tracked vocals to the excellent layered guitars. It is a profoundly relatable song that will resonate with its audience.
‘Smaller Circles’ opens to a solo acoustic guitar, and it is a track that evolves before the audience. The addition of a slide guitar adds further layers of interest. Finally, ‘The Corner’ closes the release to a gorgeously picked acoustic guitar, and integrity filled vocals.
Comments
The band says about the release, “The LP, ‘Grand Avenue Hymns’, is a labour of love, sorrow, and retrospection that arcs with the hills and valleys of what it means to grow into one’s self and the trials that come with that evolution. The things we’ve done, regretfully and otherwise, that lead us right to where we stand today.”
