John Laprade – ‘Giving Up The Ghost’
Hailing from Nashville, John Laprade has released the must-hear EP, ‘Giving Up The Ghost’. It is an alternative-country release that sets Laprade as an artist on the rise.
‘Landlocked Lighthouse’ opens the release and instantly draws the listener in. Moreover, the stunning string arrangement has been intelligently arranged. Then, as the punchy rhythm section drops, the soulful vocals ring out gorgeous, enticing melodies.
In addition, the title track, ‘Giving up the Ghost,’ takes the EP in a new direction with a rock vibe, textured instrumentation and relatable lyrics that resonate with the audience.
Moreover, ‘Angie’s Got a Way’ features warm production and a catchy chorus. Finally, ‘Cardboard Boxes’ closes the release beautifully and it is a track that will have you reaching for the repeat button.
John Laprade says about the release, “‘Giving up the Ghost’ is a collection of songs inspired by choosing to leave NYC after it became too prohibitive to survive as an artist.” He continues, “It’s kind of a break-up album of sorts if it is possible to break up with a place. I’ve since moved to Nashville, where it is not impossible to live and create in a place surrounded by inspiring musicians and songwriters.”
Recorded by Chris Cubeta at Studio G, Brooklyn, ‘Giving Up The Ghost’ is simply a stunning release. Cubeta also plays guitars and keys on the EP. Other feature musicians include; Gary Atturio – bass, keys, Spencer Cohen – drums, and Emily Hope Price – Cello. Together, the team have crafted a wonderful EP that will stand the test of time.
John Laprade cites his influences as coming from artists such as Wilco, Neil Finn, Elliott Smith, Beck, and Matthew Sweet. We can hear these muses coming through on ‘Giving Up The Ghost’, and Laprade stands shoulder to shoulder with any of these artists.
So make sure that you add ‘Giving Up The Ghost’ to your new music playlist this week. John Laprade is an artist who needs to be heard!
