‘Landlocked Lighthouse’ opens the release and instantly draws the listener in. Moreover, the stunning string arrangement has been intelligently arranged. Then, as the punchy rhythm section drops, the soulful vocals ring out gorgeous, enticing melodies.

In addition, the title track, ‘Giving up the Ghost,’ takes the EP in a new direction with a rock vibe, textured instrumentation and relatable lyrics that resonate with the audience.

Moreover, ‘Angie’s Got a Way’ features warm production and a catchy chorus. Finally, ‘Cardboard Boxes’ closes the release beautifully and it is a track that will have you reaching for the repeat button.

Comments

John Laprade says about the release, “‘Giving up the Ghost’ is a collection of songs inspired by choosing to leave NYC after it became too prohibitive to survive as an artist.” He continues, “It’s kind of a break-up album of sorts if it is possible to break up with a place. I’ve since moved to Nashville, where it is not impossible to live and create in a place surrounded by inspiring musicians and songwriters.”
