Cover_OnMyWay.jpgMartin Lucassen is a talented singer/songwriter from the Netherlands. His latest album, ‘On My Way’, has been released on 16th November 2018. It is a collection of 11 songs which are simply stunning in their composition.

‘On My Way’ is the third album to be released by Lucassen. It covers many different styles and genres which have been fused together to create a wonderful piece of art which will appeal to many different people.

The album opens with the song, ‘Nobody Knows Me’. First, we hear a banjo, followed by guitars and then full and luscious harmonies on both sides of the mix. The drums are hard-hitting when they enter and Lucassen’s voice is relatable and characterful. His voice reminds us of Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys but most certainly has characteristics all of his own.

It is difficult to choose but our favourite songs would be, ‘Why Today’, the opening is filled with solo vocals swiftly followed by a superbly played piano. We are also introduced to hauntingly beautiful strings on this song which are simply wonderful. As the piano part progresses it is uprising and uplifting. There are layers of carefully constructed instrumentation to be enjoyed too. Wonderful.

‘Keep Running Away’ is another classic tune, the vocals, guitars, and strings create a triad of wonderful parts, supporting each other well. Once the bass and drums enter, the style changes which is a nice juxtaposition to what we have heard before. The chorus is so catchy you will be humming it all day – I know we were!

The title track, ’On My Way’ features an a cappella beginning which has a vocoder on the vocals. The bass and guitars drive the song along magically and it truly is a stunning piece of composition.

We must mention the closing song, ‘Painted Nails’. It is a haunting song which is filled with sadness and emotion from beginning to end. The piano is a divine addition, as were the strings and the culmination of all instrumentation makes for a striking and unforgettable song.

One thing is for sure, ‘On My Way’ takes the listener on a true journey. From the upbeat beginning to the melancholic end, there are many different emotions to be felt and enjoyed. Make sure you check out this magnificent release today!
