We were lucky enough to catch up with musician DARCY LOUCH following the stunning release ‘Muse’. Enjoy the full interview below!
How did you first get into music?
I can always remember loving music; listening to new CDs, singing along and dancing to new music. I didn’t really perform until I started secondary school, where I would take part in an annual ‘Stars in Their Eyes’ performance. It was around this time that I realised that I had a good voice and could actually sing! Developing my confidence has been a journey since then!
Who influenced your brilliant latest release, ‘Muse’?
Muse was an idea that really came from my growing self-confidence and is almost a manifestation of a more confident person. In terms of musical influences, I was drawn to CIL and Renee Rapp with this one.
What motivates you to make music?
I love to sing, and I have so many ideas come into my head for new music. It could be something that happens to me during the day, a thought, a conversation, a line in a film or TV programme…anything and everything really!
‘Muse’ is a stunning pop release; what draws you to the genre?
I’ve always loved pop music; the focus on vocals and melody is a big part of that I think. My music taste can be quite eclectic – ranging from rap to soul, R&B, jazz…anything that I can connect with and that has a strong melody really.
If you could open for any artist/band, who would it be?
This is a difficult one! Opening for someone like Stevie Wonder would be ridiculous, but I’d also love to open for Renee Rapp or my new favourite band, Couch.
What is your biggest mistake in the music industry so far?
I don’t really see anything I’ve done so far as a mistake; everything so far has been a learning experience. I guess I regret how late I got started in the music industry, but it took a long time for me to be confident enough to perform and record my own music.
You have a series of live dates coming up. Can you tell us any more?
I am really excited to be performing live again; I took a little break to focus on writing and recording, so my next performance at The Macbeth on the 5th July will be good fun! It may also be the first time that my set is almost entirely made up of original music.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
I would love to change the way that gigs are managed, especially where promoters are constantly on you to sell tickets and only offer repeat slots if you draw in a certain crowd. I totally get the logic, but wish that gigs could be seen as an opportunity to grow a fan base rather than to prove your current fan base.

What sets you apart from other artists?
This is another difficult one! I think that I naturally have a really powerful voice, and I’m lucky in that I didn’t have to work for that! My voice is my unique selling point!
What is the best music advice you have ever been given?
To be more confident in myself and my voice, and not worry about what everyone thinks of me! No matter what you do, someone will disagree so why worry?
What new music are you listening to at the moment?
At the moment, I am listening to Cat Burns, Couch, Annie Tracy and Yebba.
