We were lucky enough to catch up with Janeuary following the superb release ‘Loving You’; enjoy the full interview below!
Hi Janeuary, what is your earliest music memory?
Our kitchen. New CDs all the time, Mom playing the piano, and Me falling asleep. Oh, I adored Chopin and Debussy and Dad playing piano at night. But plugged in with his headphones. So, I slept with the most comforting accompaniment of the hailstorm of his fingers on the plastic keys.
How did you get into the music industry?
I still don’t know how to do it or whether I should.
Who influenced your brilliant latest release, ‘Loving you’?
Love.
There is a gorgeous video accompanying the release. Can you tell us about the making of it?
It was a hot hot location, and the terrible heat outside. So, not so easy. And to take a bath in front of all the lights and cameras… You know, not so much me. But there’s a decent compensation for anything: cats.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
Chopin, Moby, Elton John, Christian Löffler, Olafur Arnalds, Amy, Jackson, Jeff Buckley and my cat.
What’s your dream venue to play?
Anywhere would do, where MY listeners are.
Other than music, what are you passionate about?
Animals, driving, mountains, nature, ballet, air acrobatics, love, love, love…
What changes would you like to see in the music business?
I’m not into business, I’m into music
What would it be if you could choose one thing for fans to take away from your music?
Take my heart. It’s big enough for everyone to get a piece…
What is your favourite song to play live?
Oh, it really depends… I have 27 personalities, and each has its own taste and preferences. So, yesterday, I howled like a wolf on the moon by my piano, singing ‘Outsider’. Sometimes, I can enjoy ‘Nightingale’, going way out of tempo and flying away, but who cares?
Have you started working on your next release?
I have started working on my next albums. Two albums, nine pieces by now, are in progress…
