Music Interview: KRISTOPHER

We were fortunate enough to catch up with musician KRISTOPHER following the superb release of ‘Swear to God’. Enjoy the full interview below.

Hi KRISTOPHER, what is your earliest music memory?

Hey! My earliest music memory would probably have to be taking piano lessons. This is horrible, but I remember making my piano teacher cry because I said I hated piano after getting frustrated. I feel awful about it to this day-wishing I could go back in time and tell her I actually really love music.

How did you get into the music industry?

I never really thought I’d be able to make music and release it until I met a fantastic singer/songwriter named Siân Cross. She inspired me to release the few songs I was writing, and since then, I’ve been working on releasing my first album.

Who influenced your superb latest release, ‘Swear to God’?

Thank you for that! ‘Swear to God’ came about as a culmination of several different experiences. I felt that in order to receive love or acceptance from certain people or even god, I would need to change myself. What originally inspired the song was the relationship I had with my faith at the time, where I believed that god would only love and accept me if I wasn’t gay.

You’re from Orlando, FL; what’s the live music scene like there?

To be honest, I haven’t participated in the live music scene much, unfortunately! Living near theme parks like Disney and Universal Studios means that there are always incredible performances happening by a number of talented performers. With this latest release, I actually performed live in Orlando for the first time at a mini-fest with other local artists!

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

There are so many artists I would love to collaborate with, even if just to meet and make music with them. There is an artist named Ryan Robson-Bluer, who I think is one of the best independent singer-songwriters I’ve ever heard, and I think we could make some amazing music. I would love to collaborate with him someday.

What’s your dream venue to play?

I’m not crazy about performing in massive venues. House of Blues at Disney Springs in Orlando is a current goal of mine.

Other than music, what are you passionate about?

I’m a really big gamer. Right now, I’m a little addicted to Civilization VI. I also really enjoy creative games like Minecraft, horror games like Dead by Daylight, and magic games like Wizard101.

What changes would you like to see in the music business?

I wish that it was kinder towards songwriters and the people behind the scenes. It’s really difficult to make a living in the music industry, and it just gets even harder for the people that aren’t front and centre.

What would it be if you could choose one thing for fans to take away from your music?

I would like people to understand and believe that it’s okay to feel sad, lonely, angry, or hurt. Emotions are not inherently bad, and we should be able to give ourselves the space to feel them. That is primarily what my music does for me, and I hope others can use it in that way as well.

Have you started working on your next release?

Yes! In fact, it’s been ready to go! The next release will also have a music video to go along with it. At this point, it’s a matter of timing, but the next single should be out in the next few months. After I finish this album, I already have my next EP and second album planned!
