We were lucky enough to catch up with musician ROBERT JORDAN following the release of his must-hear album ‘Vincent and Theo’. Enjoy our full interview below.
Hi Robert, what is your earliest music memory?
My earliest musical memory is of playing the song ‘Theme from Peter Gunn’ on a jukebox in a diner that my family was visiting. I loved the song and kept bumming quarters off of my Dad so I could play it over and over. The truck drivers and farmers in the diner did not appreciate that. I believe this is a Henry Mancini song.
How did you get into the music industry?
I don’t know if ‘industry’ is the right word for it, unless of course you create ‘industrial’ music. I got into music step by step, one thing lead to another, I met some cool people to help and here I am.
Who influenced your superb latest release, ‘In Heaven’?
‘In Heaven’ is about me being in love with a girl who is above me and unreachable. I’m a loser here and she’s not. Bummer.
‘In Heaven’ is taken from the album ‘Vincent and Theo’; what made you choose ‘In Heaven’ as the single to be released?
I am experimenting with different songs from the album to see what people like. I also tried promoting ‘Song for Bob’ and the title cut from the album.
‘In Heaven’ offers David Bowie vibes; what draws you to the genre?
I have been a Bowie fan since the ‘Ziggy Stardust’ days. I was not thinking of him or anyone else when I wrote the song. I wanted a dark and spacey arrangement for the song, David and Geoff did this great in the studio.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
I like to write songs on my own and have not done any songwriting collaborations so far. I would like to move into using synthesizers for a basic sound instead of guitar so I would like to meet someone who could help me do that.
What’s your dream venue to play?
I live 30 miles from Red Rocks in Denver, so that is the place. “Robert live at Red Rocks”.
What changes would you like to see in the music business?
I would like to see musicians able to make some money.
What would it be if you could choose one thing for fans to take away from your music?
Music has always helped me through hard times and I would like to provide a little hope and encouragement for people.
Have you started working on your next release?
I am trying to learn to write songs on keyboard instead of guitar so I am trying to figure that out right now, how to do the chords on keyboard. I have some songs that did not make it on the album, they might be a start for the next one.
