We were lucky enough to catch up with Satellite Train for a full in-depth interview. Enjoy below!

Hi Satellite Train, how did you first get together?

Originally, it was just a few friends jamming in a rehearsal studio. We were surprised by the sound, so we began making demos to see if the chemistry continued. At first, it was a bit hit or miss.

How did the name Satellite Train come about?

One of our upcoming songs is called ‘Spacewalk’, and we wanted a band name that matched. The SpaceX satellite trains by Elon Musk came to mind. As the SpaceX satellite trains travel around the globe, they are initially clumped together. When the timing is right, each satellite uses its ion thruster to ascend into a higher orbit. Most likely, we’ll fall to earth rather than be thrust into orbit. We’ll see what happens.

Who influenced your awesome release, ‘Broken Heart’?

There might not be a who, but we wanted the lyrics, music, melodies, and harmonies to convey the raw emotions associated with a broken heart. A retro and an acoustic version are available. On January 20, 2022, a version of how the song was originally intended to sound will also be released.

What motivates you to make rock music?

Getting together with musician friends is fun. There is some motivation to record and release more material, but it depends on whether there is any interest in the first batch of songs.

What’s the music scene like in Melbourne post-covid?

Active and healthy. Live large outdoor concerts take place throughout the year along with the day-to-day entertainment of seeing a cover band in a pub, for example. Concerts have different pairings of bands. Red Hot Summer Tour is an example of one of these tours.

If you could open for any artist/band, who would it be?

The Beatles. It is unlikely that you would be noticed since everyone would just want you to get off the stage so they can see The Beatles. However, it would be incredible. There is also a possibility of observing The Beatles live after performing. It would be a surreal experience.

What is your biggest mistake in the music industry so far?

Almost everything we have done. As a band, we are not doing the things that most bands do. Apart from the songs, everything else we are doing is probably not the best choice since this project does not have any connection to the music industry, and we do not have the expertise to promote it.

What are your other passions aside from music?

The members of the band work extremely hard and are dedicated to their careers. Other than that, the most common activity is likely to be spending time and doing things with family.

What sets you apart from other artists?

We aren’t a traditional band. The band is made up of musician friends who also play in other bands. As soon as we get together, there is a sense of being part of something real, but then the musicians go off to work on other projects. We might compare it to friends getting together on a Saturday morning for a walk or a bike ride. After a few weeks, we catch up again.

What is the best music advice you have ever been given?

Put in the hours of practice required to become competent as a musician, and be humble in your endeavours. All band members probably agree. They work long hours and are modest.

What musical plans do you have for the next two years?

It depends on if there is enough interest in our material, but if there is, we have a number of upcoming songs we want to record and release. Hopefully, the first batch of songs released will attract some interest.
