Raym World, Tell us about yourself?

I was born in Vallejo and raised in Oakland. I was introduced to creative writing in the 9th grade by my English teacher Ms. Mac and from there I would always have a passion for it. 

What is your songwriting process?

Sometimes lyrics come to my head out of nowhere and I start to write a song. While writing the song I look for a beat to record to and finish writing to the beat. Sometimes I could finish writing a song in under an hour or I could take days to finish writing a song. My main process consists of me listening to beats and getting the feel of my mood and then I just write exactly how I feel whatever comes to mind. 

What is the best gig that you have played?

The best gig I ever played was a little over a year ago. I remember being stiff and tense I look back at that now and realize it was anxiety. It was the good feedback that I got afterwards that made it worthwhile.

Tell us about your latest release?

“Black History Month” Is about true World history. I’m tired of the narrative always being one-sided. There is no black, I can’t go to black, I can’t be from black. Black, negro, and African American were terms created to hide the true identity of the peoples who were enslaved on what is formally known as America. I even go into details about how the law, justice, and school system are all in cahoots and work against people of colour. 

What message do you think your music conveys to your fans?

The messages my music conveys is for people to stand up for what you believe in. I want my fans to know it’s okay to be yourself and express yourself. I also want listeners to critically think despite what the popular opinion is.

Who are your musical influences?

My main musical influences come from DMX and 2pac. I need to resonate with artist lyrics to be influenced. 

Who are your non-musical influences?

My non-musical influences come from life experiences and day to day life. 

What do you think are the biggest obstacles for bands/artists today?

The biggest obstacles for bands/artists today I think is getting out there and on top of that a lot of artists except more and give less. 

What advice would you give to other bands/artists starting out?

The advice I give to other bands/artist starting out is to go hard no matter what and to promote yourself.
