STOOP PIGEON – ‘Quiet City’
Brooklyn-based band STOOP PIGEON has released the stunning EP ‘Quiet City’. It is an instrumental release you do not want to miss this July.
‘300 Miles (Forgiveness)’ opens the release with an enticing guitar that is soon joined by stoic instrumentation. As the luscious melodies ring out, the audience finds themselves captivated.
We adore ‘Bronx River Sunrise’; the intelligent arrangement takes the listener on a journey while the textured instrumentation is relaxing and enchanting in equal measure.
In addition, ‘When Last We Spoke’ takes the EP in a fresh direction with intriguing melodies and an ever-evolving arrangement. Finally, ‘A Sleepin’ Bee’ closes the release and will have you reaching for the repeat button. ‘Quiet City’ is an EP that needs to be heard to be fully appreciated.
Band Members
STOOP PIGEON comprises band members Dan Saulpaugh – Guitar, Alejandro Luna – Drums, and Jonathan Toscano – Bass. They are excellent musicians in their respective fields, but the magic happens when they come together.
Comments
STOOP PIGEON say about the release, “Of the three originals offered by guitarist Dan Saulpaugh, two were written during the height of the pandemic.”
They continue, “He was in a relationship that was ending and wrote those pieces outside in Bronx Park while going for walks. The other, ‘300 Miles’, was written when he was 18 and had gone through a brief breakup with the same person. In many ways, this record is a small, sweet goodbye.”
Influences
STOOP PIGEON cites their influences as coming from artists such as Bill Frisell, Julian Lage, Amahd Jamal, and Bob Dylan. We can hear these muses coming through on ‘Quiet City’, but make no mistake; STOOP PIGEON is making music all of their own.
We are thrilled to have heard ‘Quiet City’ and can not wait to hear what STOOP PIGEON will do next!
