The Chaw – ‘Build Them An Image’

Hailing from Oakland, The Chaw released their superb hard-rock album, ‘Build Them An Image’, in May 2022.

‘Boil in Blood’ opens the release with a hard-hitting song with an addictive nature. Fuelled with memorable guitar riffs and driving sound, this excellent track sets the scene for what is to come.

‘Driving Your Car’ is a stand-out song. We adore the charismatic vocals which demand the listener’s attention. The rhythm section feels like the track’s heartbeat, while the texture guitars add vivid colour to the song.

The title track ‘Build Them An Image’, takes the album in a darker direction with a brooding vibe and superb musicianship. Finally, ‘Dreaming In The Town’ closes the release and leaves the listener wanting more.

The Chaw say about this latest release, “‘Build Them An Image’ was inspired by an attempt to make a great diverse rock album. In addition, the city of Oakland itself plays a major influence to songs like ‘Sharon Seeville’, ‘Big Black Sequoia’, and ‘Dreaming In The Town’.”

Guitars at zZounds

‘Build Them An Image’ has been skilfully engineered, mixed and co-produced by Greg Francis. In addition, it has been wonderfully mastered by Mark Chalecki at Little Red Mastering in LA. Together the team have done an excellent job in creating an album that stands with the greats.

Band Members

The Chaw comprises of band members Jeffrey Tollefson – Bass and vocals, Jarrod Taylor – Guitar, and Stephen Schreffler – Guitar. They are excellent musicians in their own right, but the magic happens when they come together.

The band cites their influences as coming from bands such as Queens of the Stone Age, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Depeche Mode, and Interpol. We can hear these muses coming through on ‘Build Them An Image’, and The Chaw stand shoulder to shoulder with any of these bands.

So make sure you add ‘Build Them An Image’ to your new music playlist; you will not be disappointed!
