The New Solarism – ‘The Kiss’
The New Solarism, the solo project of Leipzig-based violinist and composer Izabela Kaldunska, presents ‘The Kiss’—a new, original album, released on 28 March 2025.
‘Shock‘ opens the release and gently swims into the sonic spectrum. We adore the quiet evolution of the piece that draws the listener in. In addition, ‘Being Lost’ is a standout piece that takes the listener on a journey with emotive melodies and passionate performances.
Moreover, ‘Uncertainty’ is a standout piece. The intelligent arrangement draws the listener in, keeping us on our toes with uneasy melodies and evolving harmonies. Also, ‘Grief’ is a beautiful track, complete with delicate melodies and exquisite musicianship; it is a piece that reaches out and touches the listener.
‘Peace’ is a stunning song that takes the album in a fresh direction, marked by wonder and calm. Finally, ‘The End’ closes the album with melodic violins and captivating performances.
Tomas Blum
Born from a remote online theatre collaboration during the pandemic with Berlin author Tomas Blum, the album evolved into ten original pieces exploring the full spectrum of human emotion.
Comments
The New Solarism says about the album, “I think the release is very special because it reveals many aspects of the sound that a single violin can make. ‘The End’ – the main theme from the Theatre Piece ‘The Kiss‘, ‘Peace’ – this title just gained so much meaning for me during the last few years – it became a wish for the world to stop conflicts and also a question ‘how can we ever feel peace again after all what happened?’”
Influences
Influences from Nils Frahm to Arvo Pärt echo throughout, while each track remains rooted in a minimalist approach that invites listeners to experience music as both introspection and self-expression during times of uncertainty.
Resilience
‘The Kiss’ is more than a collection of compositions; it is a testament to the resilience of creativity born in isolation, transforming a theatre piece into a profoundly personal sonic journey.
With four singles released alongside specially written poems and a live premiere featuring Tomas Blum’s readings, The New Solarism offers listeners a unique space to pause and reflect through emotive melodies.
Tour
As Izabela Kaldunska continues her tour across western Germany, ‘The Kiss’ resonates as an invitation to melt away into layered violin textures and to discover how music can embody peace, vulnerability, and the quiet pursuit of understanding oneself in a shifting world. Enjoy today!
