The Taproots – ‘Tales of Wonderland’
US-based band The Taproots have released the magnificent album ‘Tales of Wonderland’. It is an alternative-folk release that will have you reaching for the repeat button this winter.
‘California Life’ opens the album and instantly draws the listener in. The upbeat melodies fill the sonic spectrum with vivid colour. In addition, the gorgeous vocal harmonies set the piece alight.
‘Wild Like a River’ is a standout song with stunning vocal performances and intelligently arranged instrumentation. Moreover, ‘Ontario’ is a compelling track filled with luscious textures and thought-provoking lyrics.
Also, ‘Invisible Friends’ features a stoic rhythm section, a track that gently evolves before the listener. ‘Comfort Zone’ is a song that stays with the audience long after the music has ended. Excellent storytelling puts the listener right at the heart of the action. Finally, ‘Fate of Fire’ closes the album beautifully.
The Taproots consist of singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Tom Walters and award-winning vocalist Nicole Cassingham. In addition, on this excellent release, they have been joined by bassist Mick Mahan (Pat Benatar), guitarist Jon Woodhead (Leon Russel), and drummer Michael C. Mason. Also, the superb talents of Craig Dobbin and Jeff Alan Ross (Badfinger/Peter Asher) feature too.
Moreover, ‘Tales of Wonderland’ was recorded at Momboe Studios in Woodland Hills by Michael C. Mason and engineer/mixer Ross Pallone (Prince, Michael McDonald). Together, the team have created an album that will stand the test of time. It is a rich tapestry of songs that come together to form a compelling body of work.
We are thrilled to have discovered this gem of an album and highly anticipate what The Taproots will do next. But, until then, turn the lights down and the volume up, ‘Tales of Wonderland’ is an album that needs to be heard to be fully appreciated, and we can not recommend it highly enough!
