Whitbeck – ‘January 22’
Vancouver-based artist Whitbeck has released the magnificent grunge album ‘January 22’. It is a phenomenal release that you need to hear this Summer.
‘West Coast Love Song’ opens the release to an atmospheric and driving vibe that sets the scene wonderfully as to what is to come. We adore the deeply affecting vocals that reach out and touch the audience.
The title track ‘January 22’ is a guitar-fueled song with memorable vocal performance and catchy melodies. In addition, ‘Cinema’ is bright and punchy from the get-go. The layered instrumentation have been well arranged and the vocals shine at the forefront of the mix.
‘In Other Words’ closes the release and ties the release together to form a compelling body of work. ‘January 22’ will have you reaching for the repeat button.
Previously, Whitbeck (AKA Greg Whitbeck) has been the guitarist and songwriter for Morning Maker, Tourist and Shining Hour. He is a talented and dynamic artist who is making relevant and exciting music.
Whitbeck says about the release, “‘January 22’ is our 1st full-length album and also the 3rd single and video from the record. The song itself is about the paradox of hope and renewal vs defeat and resignation against a backdrop of the beautiful, shining port city of Vancouver, Canada.”
He continues, “Mixed and produced later, it was written & recorded in the cabin of my 27′ Albin Vega sailboat I lived on at the time and all the vocal and guitar tracks are the originals from those Shelter Island Sessions.”
Live performances see Whitbeck joined by the talented artist’s Sean Dillon, Mario Loubert and Shiraz Mohammed. So if you get the chance to catch Whitbeck live, make sure you go! Can we request a UK tour, please?
‘January 22’ is a brilliant album we can not recommend highly enough. We can not wait to hear what will come next!
