‘Still Life’ is the first independent release from producer and instrumentalist, Apidae (AKA Greg Hummell). This stunning single was co-written with Mazlyn who also provides the mesmerising lead vocals too.
A kick drum soon establishes itself at the foundation of the track; it feels like the heartbeat of the song and creates a solid base for the rest of the instrumentation to grow. The vocal performance is filled with honest integrity. It emotes emotion and encapsulates the listener’s attention.
We adored the many instruments blessing the song. A string quartet, Fender Rhodes and driving drums being some of the highlights. The chorus is catchy, and we looked forward to it returning each time. We loved the production too. It is clean and allows all of the instruments to have their own space in the mix.
Mazlyn says, “Lyrically, ‘Still Life’ is about feeling trapped and static. It explores an inevitability and hopelessness in expecting change and how long it can last, but also suggest hope that in searching for core values of life and nature we can find a way to be content.”
Apidae and Mazlyn have produced a song that is destined to stand the test of time. It is a classic in the making that is memorable and spell-binding. ‘Still Life’ has been taken from the upcoming EP ‘Everything Is Alright’ due for release on 7th February 2020. There are also two live dates planned:
