AzeriahVII Releases “I’m Obsessed With You”
Belgian independent artist AzeriahVII makes a strong first impression with the debut single “I’m Obsessed With You.” Featuring Nico Dovan on guitar, the track combines darkwave and post-punk elements with electronic production, creating a brooding atmosphere that immediately draws the listener in.
Brooding Atmosphere and a Bass-Led Arrangement
Charismatic vocals open the release and instantly take control of the song. As the backing instrumentation enters, it establishes a dark yet inviting atmosphere. Staccato guitars cut through the arrangement, while the driving rhythm section keeps the track moving without disturbing its restrained mood.
What stood out most to me was the prominence of the bass line. Rather than sitting quietly beneath the other instruments, it is pushed towards the front of the mix and gives the song much of its movement and character. Nico Dovan’s guitar parts fill the remaining space with vivid colour, adding detail without making the production feel overcrowded.
I also enjoyed how the dual vocals bring another dimension to the track. They strengthen its uneasy, introspective character and work particularly well against the persistent rhythm underneath. The central refrain is memorable, but it never develops into an oversized chorus or dramatic drop.
That decision surprised me in a positive way. The song remains deliberately linear, allowing the tension to linger instead of offering the listener an immediate release. It gives “I’m Obsessed With You” a distinctive sense of control and makes its atmosphere feel more important than a conventional payoff.
A Strong and Focused Debut
For me, the track works best when its bass, vocals and staccato guitar parts come together. Each element has a clear purpose, and the restrained structure keeps the mood intact from beginning to end.
“I’m Obsessed With You” introduces AzeriahVII as an artist willing to trust atmosphere and tension without forcing the song into a familiar shape. It is a focused and engaging debut that deserves a place on your new-release playlist this week.
