Musician Christian Prior released his spellbinding debut single, ‘Give Me Strength’ on the 29th February 2020.
‘Give Me Strength’ has an intriguing opening, slowly swimming into the audio landscape. Prior’s voice is warm and welcoming, with a strong English accent enticing the listening. We found the beat to be attractive with the snare snaps and synths. The vocals on the chorus are double-tracked, giving them weight within the piece with swirling synths tying the piece together.
Lyrically, ‘Give Me Strength’ is relatable and will resonate with its listeners. It is hard-hitting in places and filled with many emotions and colours. It is melodically charming, and the piece evolves before the listener’s ears. We also loved the production on the single, everything has its own space in the mix, and a harmonious balance has been reached between the varied instrumentation.
Prior says, “‘Give Me Strength’ explores themes of perseverance through desperation and hopelessness. Of finding inner fortitude and the strength to conquer our greatest struggles, whether they be internal or external.” He continues, “I started out with these incredibly vulnerable lyrics exploring themes of fear, anxiety, the struggle of life and death, and perseverance. I had a picture in my mind of a lonely protagonist wandering through a post-apocalyptic world and the hardships they would face. Later, I realised the protagonist was me.”
Prior is a well-respected musician on the London music scene. He has supported the singer, and guitarist Lisa Marini at her sold-out show at St. Pancras Old Church. He also performed as a band member for the acclaimed Turkish singer at another sold-out show at Rich Mix – part of the London Jazz Festival.
