Coastal Fire Dept. – ‘Radio’ EP
Hailing from Guernsey, Channel Islands, Coastal Fire Dept are a brilliant alternative-rock band. Their latest EP ‘Radio’ is a must-hear release this Winter 2020.
‘Fight the Scene’ opens the release; we adore the production; it is instantly punchy and compels the listener. A big band sound engulfs the audience, and the vibe is utterly intoxicating.
‘Coco’ is a layered and complex song that is filled with a luscious texture and colour. We adore the driving nature of the song too. ‘The Message’ has a mellow opening, and it is a song which evolves before the listener. Brilliantly arranged, it is a track which draws the audience in. Finally, ‘Same as You’ closes the release and will have you reaching for the repeat button.
Coastal Fire Dept cites their influences as coming from 90s grunge/alt-rock, but we believe that they are reinventing the genre for 2020. They are an exciting and enigmatic band who are destined for big things. We are sure that ‘Radio’ will please existing Coastal Fire Dept while simultaneously winning them an army of new ones too.
Mikey Ferbrache
The EP was superbly recorded by Mikey Ferbrache at Apocalypse Studios. He is a long term collaborator with the band, and together they have carved out a sound that is unmistakably Coastal Fire Dept.
We can not recommend Coastal Fire Dept highly enough. They are a band on the up, and we very much look forward to hearing what they will do next.
Also, we were lucky enough to catch up with the band for a full interview where we discuss their motivations, working with Fabian Tormin (Biffy Clyro, The Kills) and their forthcoming album, due for release in 2021. Read it here!
