Tell us about yourself?

Hey! I’m Dan Disgrace, and I’m a musician from Liverpool that makes weird pop music.

What is your songwriting process?

I normally come up with sections of songs on a keyboard or guitar and record those early ideas on my little four-track. I’ll then transfer these skeleton cassette recordings into garage band and flesh things out digitally from there. Songwriting and recording are the same things to me.

Tell us about your latest release?

So it’s a seven-track ep, kind of like a mini-album. It’s my debut release, so I wanted it to cover what I’d been doing the past few years and introduce people to this character.

What message do you think your music conveys to your fans?

I’m still figuring that out myself, I’m afraid, haha. Some of the songs are about dealing with stress at work.

Who are your musical influences?

Ariel Pink is an artist I like. I think dean blunts music is very cool too. Gary Wilson is another artist that influenced my style. A really broad range influences me, check out my Spotify playlist!!

Who are your non-musical influences?

I watch a lot of films, and I love cooking. I like science stuff and follow politics closely. I can’t draw for sh*t, so I like looking at Robert Crumb comics and things like that.

What’s the best gig that you have ever played?

I played bass for beach skulls once upon a time; we played a show in Stockholm that I’ll never forget.

What do you think are the biggest obstacles for bands/artists today?

Different types of artists will have different obstacles, I guess. I think making a living is probably the biggest one that all musicians face in 2020. Its definitely still achievable though – If your music is good then naturally people will gravitate to it over time.

What advice would you give to other bands/artists starting out?

Don’t compare yourself to anybody and really get stuck into recording music rather than playing it.

What are your hopes for the next two years?

I have another EP lined up to release later this year which I’m very excited about after then I’ll be working towards my debut album.
