The 15th of November 2019 saw the release of the gorgeous album by British born artist, David Broadway. ‘But Beautiful’ is a stunning collection of songs filled with heart, passion and grace.
The instrumentation is stripped back on the album. A solo piano and vocal let the songs shine in their natural light. Broadway’s vocal performance is breathtaking throughout. He has the ability to capture the listeners’ attention and hold it effortlessly. We found ourselves drawn into tracks such as ‘Moonlight in Vermont’, ‘Here’s That Rainy Day’ and ‘That Sunday That Summer’, and reaching for the repeat button once they had finished.
The production is also clean, with a modest amount of reverb and compression on the vocals, allowing them to shine that little bit brighter in the mix. Broadway’s warm and rich tone adds colour and depth to the pieces alongside his undeniable character and charm.
Rubens Alves is the stunning piano player who features on the release. ‘But Beautiful’ is comprised of Broadway’s choice of Jazz standards (inspired by Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Jack Jones, etc), and endorsed by Alves. His arrangements let the songs shine magically.
We are so thrilled to have been introduced to ‘But Beautiful’. The outstanding feature that occurred to us upon hearing this piece of art is the passion and genuine love the duo have for the music. It is infectious and a factor that is often missing in current music.
Now based in Portugal, Broadway has a simply stunning voice. He has described this release as a ‘bucket list dream’, but we sincerely hope this is just the first of many albums to come. We thoroughly recommend adding ‘But Beautiful’ to your playlist this week, you will not be disappointed!
