Ellyn Oliver – ‘Ring the Bells’
Hailing from Glasgow, musician Ellyn Oliver has released the stunning EP ‘Ring the Bells’. It is a great Christmas release that is destined to get you into the festive feeling this 2020.
An upbeat and joyous opening greets the listener. ‘Magnify’ is an excellent opening to the EP. It features layered and varied instrumentation that are intriguing and captivating. We love Ellyn Oliver’s gorgeous vocals which are filled with warmth and a brilliant tone.
‘Ring the Bells’ has a laid back vibe with a warming organ. The chorus is catchy and features a beautiful chordal progression. ‘O Holy Night’ closes the EP. It is a gentle arrangement that is delicate yet hard-hitting at the same time. ‘Ring the Bells’ is a must-hear release this festive season.
Oliver worked with producer Gus Stirrat of Solas Sounds in Glasgow on this release. Together, they have created a warm and intoxicating release that is the tonic we all need after a taxing 2020.
2020
2020 began with Oliver winning the Danny Kyle Open Stage Celtic Connections. She subsequently played in Chicago, Nashville, Georgia, Alabama and Texas before the pandemic struck. She continued to write, teach and record vocals for other artists during 2020. Finally, releasing ‘Ring the Bells’ closes the year and sets Oliver to start 2021 with a bang.
We are so excited to have discovered Ellyn Oliver. She is a brilliant artist who needs to be heard, and we look forward to hearing what she will do next.
