Ethan Moraux Delivers a Dark and Defiant New Single With “Icon Killer”

Toronto artist Ethan Moraux steps forward with “Icon Killer,” a fierce single that brings rage rap, underground hip-hop, digicore and hyperpop into the same volatile space. Produced by his friend and collaborator Cohen, the track combines glitchy percussion, dark melodies and an aggressive vocal performance. Moraux recorded it at Diesel Headquarters in Toronto before mixing and mastering the release himself. Inspired by the actions of a former collaborator, the song channels frustration into an uncompromising expression of ambition and self-belief.

Dark Production and Forceful Delivery

A textured, hard-hitting introduction immediately establishes the track’s darker character. What stood out most to me was the authority in Moraux’s delivery. His vocals arrive with real force, and that intensity increases when the beat drops beneath them.

The production feels deliberately abrasive, with fractured electronic percussion and heavy low-end giving the track its menacing edge. Rather than softening the sound to make it more accessible, Moraux and Cohen lean into its aggression. The contrast between the glitchy details and the weight of the bass keeps the instrumental interesting without distracting from the vocal performance. That decision gives “Icon Killer” a clear identity and makes the performance feel closely connected to the frustration behind its lyrics.

A Short and Focused Arrangement

At only 1:51, the single moves quickly and does not allow its energy to fade. I particularly enjoyed how confidently the arrangement commits to its central idea without adding unnecessary sections. Its abrupt ending suits that approach, cutting the track off while its momentum is still high and making an immediate repeat feel natural.

A Distinctive Step Forward

“Icon Killer” offers a focused introduction to the direction Moraux is developing. Its strongest qualities are its forceful vocal performance, unconventional percussion and refusal to dilute its darker atmosphere. Having already connected with audiences onstage, it is easy to imagine the track working well in a live setting. Moraux has turned a difficult experience into something direct and energised, resulting in a short release that makes its point with conviction.
