Heathcote Hill – ‘Promised Land’

‘Promised Land’ is the magnificent latest release from Heathcote Hill. Taken from their 2019 album, ‘Fight Another Day’, the single establishes its intent from the beginning and delivers a heavy, endearing song.

First, we hear a guitar riff mixed to one side of the audio spectrum. A separate guitar playing its riff soon balances the piece on the other side of the mix. There is a harmonious balance between the two, and a solid foundation emerges. We adored the guitars which appear in the minor key and set the tone of the song. The use of suspended chords also adds intrigue to the piece. Bass, mandolin and a violin enter to add texture to the piece too, and we also hear a tambourine, keeping time and emanating authority. The kick drum feels like the heartbeat of the single too. All of these elements come together to create the Americana feel.

The vocal performance is simply stunning. The depth of character and warmth in the performance is truly beautiful. There are also luscious backing vocals intertwined with the main vocal. Together they work tirelessly.

Hailing from Mamaroneck, New York, Heathcote Hill are a great band. Comprised of; Megan Porcaro Herspring – Vocals, Tom Nelson – Guitar, Tory Ridder – Drums, Akil Kadin James – Bass, Mike Bishop – Keys, and Vanessa Senn Ridder, Supporting Vocals, we are blown away by this single. Together they have united to create a perfect piece of music on ‘Promised Land.’ There is space when needed, and the track hits hard when it calls for it.

Make sure you check out this superb single this weekend, we can not wait to see what will come next from such an exciting band!
