Hemma – ‘Hometown’
Hailing from the United States, Hemma has released the brilliant single ‘Hometown’. It is an Americana release which needs to be heard!
A gorgeously picked acoustic guitar opens the release. Hemma’s spellbinding vocals enter, and the single is in full flow. We adore the lyrics which are deeply relatable and reach out to touch the listener. Hemma’s vocal range is exquisite, and her tone draws the listener in.
The chordal progressions are simply beautiful, and ‘Hometown’ is a well-composed and arranged track. In addition, we love the stripped back instrumentation of the single; it lets the track shine in the light in which it was written.
Hemma says about the release, “After an emotionally fraught Boxing Day, where texting felt like the only way to connect with loved ones, I was desperately needing to process some emotions before bed. Songs are navigational tools for the rough waters of adaptation.”
She continues,” This song came through quickly and without the shadow of a doubt that it needs to be printed digitally and preserved in that window of fragility for maximal authenticity.” This comes through on the recording and makes for an addictive listen.
Hemma cites her influences as coming from Neil Young, Jessica Pratt, and Adrianne Lenker. We can hear these artists coming through on ‘Hometown’, but make no mistake; Hemma is making music all of her own.
‘Hometown’ was recorded by Hemma in her home studio. The production compliments the track beautifully, and Hemma has done a fantastic job in releasing a single that will stand the test of time.
So make sure you add ‘Hometown’ to your weekday playlist. We are so excited to have discovered this formidable artist and very much look forward to hearing what she will do in 2021.
