Kete Bowers – ‘Paper Ships’
Originally from Liverpool, musician Kete Bowers has released the superb Americana album ‘Paper Ships’ in 2019.
Firstly, ‘Northern Town’ opens the release to a luscious acoustic beginning. Bowers’s voice is filled with texture and sentiment and engages with his audience instantly. In addition, there is darkness in the atmosphere around the song, which is thoroughly compelling.
‘Ghosts’ is another excellent track; we adore the stripped back instrumentation, which lets the track shine in the light in which it was written.
‘A Place by the River’ has a beautiful groove that is infectious and will have the listener reaching for the repeat button. Finally, ‘You Stole My Joy’ closes the album and leaves us wanting more!
Lyrically, Bowers is incredibly relatable, and this is a big part of his charm. Above all, he is a storyteller who conveys vivid imagery and emotion to his audience effortlessly.
Musicians who contributed to ‘Paper Ships’ include; Kete Bowers – Acoustic Guitar/Vocals, Tom Juhas – Electric Guitar, Aron Goldstein – Pedal Steel/Dobro Guitar, Michael Johnston – Piano/Organ, Josh Finlayson – Bass and Peter Timmins – Drums.
‘Paper Ships’ was written by Kete Bowers and recorded in Toronto, Canada at The Cowboy Junkies Studio. Finally, it was superbly produced by Michael Timmins. Together, the team have done an excellent job in producing a classic album that will stand the test of time.
Previously, Bowers has been described as a ‘Liverpudlian Neil Young’ and compared to Guy Clark, John Prine, and Tom Waits, after hearing ‘Paper Ships’, we can see why. He is a troubadour who is creating emotive and compelling art which needs to be heard.
Most importantly, make sure you add ‘Paper Ships’ to your weekday playlist. To conclude, we very much look forward to hearing more from Kete Bowers in the future.
