Midnight Canyon – ‘Midnight Canyon’
Chicago-based band Midnight Canyon have released their self titled EP in December 2020. It is a magnificent Americana release that needs to be heard to be fully appreciated.
‘Where The Ocean Starts’ opens the release and the varied instrumentation is instantly appealing from the get-go. The vocals are filled with character and warmth. We adore the textured instrumentation, which adds its unique colour to the piece.
‘On My Radio’ is a standout song. It has an upbeat feel that is thoroughly intoxicating. The melodic guitars add further character to the piece; it is a song which will have you reaching for the repeat button. In addition, we have added it to our FV Music Blog playlist, check it out here!
We love ‘Piano in The Rain’, it closes the release and leaves the audience wanting more. Midnight Canyon knows how to write a thoroughly compelling song, filled with colour and unexpected chordal progressions. A wonderful release.
Midnight Canyon cites their influences as coming from artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits, Dawes, The Head and The Heart, Fleetwood Mac, and The Eagles. We can hear these artist coming through on the release but make no mistake; Midnight Canyon is making music all of their own.
Quarantine
Amazingly, Midnight Canyon were formed in quarantine. They have a sound which feels as though they have been playing together for a long time and this is testament to the brilliant musicians that they are.
We are so excited to have discovered Midnight Canyon and very much hope that this EP is the first of many to come from the band. They are a brilliant trio who are making waves in 2020.
So make sure to add Midnight Canyon’ to your must-hear playlist this weekend. We very much look forward to hearing what this folk-pop trio will do next!
